In conjunction with the recent Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, eco-structure hosted a cocktail party at Parris at Ned Devine’s in Boston’s Faneuil Hall Marketplace to recognize the winners and judges of its inaugural Evergreen Awards program.

The judges, Ralph DiNola, principal of Green Building Services, Portland, Ore.; Tom Glaysher, intern architect with Flad Architects, Gainesville, Fla.; and Bert Gregory, principal and chief executive officer of Mithun, Seattle, each received a bottle of zinfandel from Peju Province Winery, Napa Valley, Calif., for their time and dedication to the program. The winery produces 36 percent of its annual energy with solar panels and its Rutherford Estate Vineyard has been certified by the California Certified Organic Farmers.

The award winners took home 100 percent post-consumerrecycled- glass awards handcrafted by Rivanna Natural Designs, Charlottesville, Va. Accepting the awards were Richard Piacentini, executive director of the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, for Phipps Tropical Forest Conservatory, Pittsburgh; Rus Perry, vice president of SmithGroup, for the Christman Building, Lansing, Mich.; Myer Harrell with Weber Thompson for the Terry Thomas, Seattle; Jonah Busick, project director, and Joe Herzog, founder and director of architecture for [merz] project, for the Galleries at Turney, Phoenix;

Megan Rux, a third-year graduate student in Studio 804 at the University of Kansas, for Modular 4, Lawrence, Kan.; and Kevin Nordmeyer, a design partner with RDG Planning & Design, for the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities Office and Training Facility, Ankeny. Nordmeyer also was recognized as a winner in the Perspectives category along with Bruce Fowle, senior partner at FXFOWLE Architects.

“This inaugural awards program was more successful than we had anticipated,” says John Riester, eco-structure’s publisher. “The winners have set the bar high for 2009’s submissions and assure all of us at eco-structure that we’re on our way to a sustainable built environment.”
