When a city government builds sustainable community buildings, they send a strong message to their community that they are committed to resilience, health, and innovation, and can incite widespread adoption.
The USGBC's Fleming Roberts compiles 10 striking examples of sustainable public projects that serve different purposes in each their communities, including city halls, schools, a public library, train station, football stadium, and arts center.
Number 10 on Roberts' list is the LEED Platinum City Hallin Pasadena, Arizona:
Their LEED Platinum City Hall covers two blocks and is a proud city center. It has all the bells and whistles of a LEED building, but extra pizazz was added an art gallery and a wind animated art installation/shading system. The Assistant City Manager, Marian Norris, made it clear why local governments choose to use LEED for public projects. 'We didn't just choose LEED for LEED's sake, it makes sense economically,' explains Norris. 'It's about fiscal responsibility; we want to be stewards for the taxpayers.'
