While the USGBC’s LEED green-building rating system has spread rapidly across the globe, there are 112 countries where the system is currently not in use. To incentivize LEED use in these regions, the USGBC has launched LEED Earth, a campaign that will waive certification fees for the first project to obtain LEED certification in each areas. The offer will be available until June 5, 2016.

Countries on the list of United Nation member states without a LEED certified building are eligible to participate, however countries with which the United States has trade sanctions are ineligible. The first certified program under any LEED rating systems except for LEED for Homes, LEED Volume, and LEED Campus, will be eligible for a refund of certification fees paid to GBCI up to $30,000 USD. LEED-ND projects are eligible in Stage 3 certification only; pre-certification and split certifications are not eligible. If a project’s certification is challenged and revoked, the refunded fees must be returned to GBCI.
