Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina

Surrounded by the natural beauty of Mission Bay in San Diego, the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina strives to pamper guests in a pristine setting. It also is the site of Hyatt Corp.’s first eco-friendly spa, Blue Marble Spa, which dispels the myth that conservation can’t go hand in hand with luxury. Named after the image of Earth taken from outer space during the Apollo 17 mission, the spa promotes life in harmony with nature by illuminating the natural beauty of the Earth and its need for immediate care. Blue Marble Spa, designed by architect Jensen Fey, Redmond, Wash., helps reduce negative ecological impacts by providing a model for natural wellness, as well as a place for education and an eco-experience. The interior, which was designed by Nickey + Kehoe of Los Angeles, provides guests with 11 treatment spaces, including four individual treatment rooms; an oversized couples' suite with individual rain showers; and a manicure and pedicure lounge. A private Earth garden and five outdoor spa cabanas also are available. Body treatments, facials and massage therapy offer guests life-promoting properties derived from nature. Blue Marble Spa uses organic and natural skincare products, offers organic fruits and food options, and uses as little hot water as possible while still maintaining an indulgent spa experience. Full-day experiences, called Spa Journeys, are based on the fundamental four elements: Earth, air, water and fire. Journeys explore each element, linking experiential spa treatments and choreographed music to balance, purify, hydrate and stimulate. Blue Marble Spa uses only recycled paper and eco-friendly cleaning products. It offers its treatment menu in digital format, and provides eco-friendly literature for reading and further education. The spa has installed energy-efficient light bulbs, bamboo flooring and low-flow showerheads. It also encourages and showcases recycling efforts and sources as much as possible from green companies. Blue Marble Spa connects guests to the idea that minor lifestyle changes can result in big impacts on the Earth while restoring and cultivating health, beauty and wellness.
