Brightwater Cener

Brightwater Environmental Education & Community Center

A walkway made from salvaged wood connects indoor and outdoor spaces and is topped by translucent panels that alternate with a photovoltaic array. Downspouts collect stormwater and redirect it to a series of rain gardens.

Public spaces include a resource library to educate visitors about the environment. Operable clerestory windows aid with daylighting and natural ventilation, while the concrete floor slab includes a radiant heating system for the winter.

The palette of the exterior combines durable materials such as reclaimed wood, glass, concrete and steel, and the scale is designed to blend into the landscape. The building’s two wings are perpendicular to one another.
