This campus gateway project, with a new retail and entertainment pavilion, reduced the need for residents and students to travel out of the area for shopping or for evening entertainment. Mueller, in Austin, Texas, is a public-private redevelopment of a former municipal airport into a sustainably designed mixed-use urban village.

The entire 700-acre Mueller master plan has earned a Stage 2 Silver certification in the LEED for Neighborhood Development Pilot Program, which integrates the principles of smart growth, urbanism, and green building into a national program for whole neighborhoods and larger mixed-use projects.

Mueller’s town center, a 39-acre portion of the overall 700-acre project, creates a sustainable urban village environment that includes the planned Austin Children’s Museum, in addition to retail, offices, entertainment and multifamily housing.
