McKinley Elementary Sustainability Workshop

Students in the third, fourth, and fifth grades at McKinley Elementary participated in three, 90-minute workshops focusing on energy, water, and waste.

The workshops included grade-specific lessons and hands-on group activities. In the energy-focused workshop, shown here, students explores solar cookers developed by students at California Polytechnic State University.

Cal Poly students presented solar cookers they had built as part of their own school assignment.

In the waste workshop, sutdents played a waste-busters game where points were doled out for recycling, reusing, sharing, and composting. In a separate water workshop, the built simulated aquifers to see the effect of contaminants on the water supply.
