Through October 1st, the Biomimicry Institute, the Missoula, Mont., nonprofit founded by Janine Benyus to foster sustainable solutions through the emulation of natural designs, will be accepting registrations for its annual Student Design Challenge.
This year’s competition awards $5,000 to the team of university students that best uses the principles of biomimetic design to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, ideally in the team’s local environment. Teams are to submit both concept sketches and final renderings or models of their designs.
Submissions, which are due by Dec. 21st, will be judged on their creativity, feasibility, potential impact, collaborative spirit, and application of biomimicry. Winners will be announced on Feb. 27, 2012. Find more information at biomimicrydesignchallenge.com.
