Crossville Inc., Crossville, Tenn., has released a tile take-back program. Pre- and post-consumer tile previously has been considered non-recyclable, but working with CEMCO, a company that specializes in the crushing of aggregate and recycled materials, Crossville has developed a system of processing ceramic and porcelain tile back into powder used in manufacturing new tile. The resulting new products will have verifiable recycled content and more than 4 million pounds (1.8 million kg) of tile Crossville has sent to local landfills will be recycled. In addition to repurposing its own scrap tile, the program will allow the company to take back samples and installed tile. For more information about the program, visit
