ARCHITECT and Ecobuildingpulse.com have teamed up to provide a compilation of all things Solar Decathlon. Run by the U.S. Department of Energy, the Solar Decathlon challenges student teams to design and build solar-powered single-family houses, which are tested, judged, and exhibited during a ten-day period at the conclusion of the competition. First held in 2002, the Solar Decathlon has evolved into a biennial event, occurring in 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2011 in Washington, D.C. This year, the competition moves to the west coast, with the 2013 U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon taking place Oct. 3-13 in Irvine, Calif.
