Since its inception in 1941, VELUX, the world leader in skylights, roof windows, and solar water heating, has made it possible for people to increase the energy efficiency of their homes. Our products reduce dependency on electricity by using sunlight to illuminate rooms and heat water. Our venting skylights also promote passive ventilation and the release of volatile organic compounds released by household products such as paint, carpet, and fabric.
With each generation of products, we improve performance-based energy efficiency. In 2009, we introduced our next generation of residential skylights that represent the largest investment ever by our company in performance advancement. Not content to rest on these accomplishments, we seek to advance greater sustainability in our manufacturing and in our products. For example, our U.S. manufacturing operations include energy efficiency programs and continued waste reduction and recycling as a part of our ISO 14001 certification. We have also made a global commitment to reduce our 2007 CO2 levels by 20% by 2012 and by 50% by 2020.
VELUX is a leader globally and locally in sustainable living today and in the development of new sustainable living practices for tomorrow.
Our leadership role in defining the next generation of sustainable living is exemplified by our Model Home 2020 program, which entails the building of six climate-neutral homes with optimal indoor environments filled with fresh air and daylight throughout Europe. Over the past year, we brought the program to the U.S., and worked with our partners in the building industry to create an Active House in Webster Groves, Mo.
We are committed to ongoing product innovation that enables people to harness the sun to make their homes more energy efficient and improve the way they live.
